Five Lectures on Optimal Transportation: Geometry, Regularity and Applications

چکیده
In this series of lectures we introduce the Monge-Kantorovich problem of optimally transporting one distribution of mass onto another, where optimality is measured against a cost function c(x, y). Connections to geometry, inequalities, and partial differential equations will be discussed, focusing in particular on recent developments in the regularity theory for Monge-Ampère type equations. An application to microeconomics will also be described, which amounts to finding the equilibrium price distribution for a monopolist marketing a multidimensional line of products to a population of anonymous agents whose preferences are known only statistically. c ©2010 by Robert J. Ricci curvature , entropy and optimal transport – Summer School in Grenoble 2009 – ‘ Optimal Transportation : Theory and Applications
These notes are the planned contents of my lectures. Some parts could be only briefly explained or skipped due to the lack of time or possible overlap with other lectures. The aim of these lectures is to review the recent development on the relation between optimal transport theory and Riemannian geometry. Ricci curvature is the key ingredient. Optimal transport theory provides a good character...

Convex solutions to the power-of-mean curvature flow, conformally invariant inequalities and regularity results in some applications of optimal transportation Shibing Chen Doctor of Philosophy Graduate Department of Mathematics University of Toronto 2012 In this thesis we study three different problems: convex ancient solutions to the power-ofmean curvature flow; Sharp inequalities; regularity ...
متن کاملA glimpse into the differential topology and geometry of optimal transport∗
This note exposes the differential topology and geometry underlying some of the basic phenomena of optimal transportation. It surveys basic questions concerning Monge maps and Kantorovich measures: existence and regularity of the former, uniqueness of the latter, and estimates for the dimension of its support, as well as the associated linear programming duality. It shows the answers to these q...
متن کاملMeasure Concentration, Transportation Cost, and Functional Inequalities
— In these lectures, we present a triple description of the concentration of measure phenomenon, geometric (through BrunnMinkoswki inequalities), measure-theoretic (through transportation cost inequalities) and functional (through logarithmic Sobolev inequalities), and investigate the relationships between these various viewpoints. Special emphasis is put on optimal mass transportation and the ...
متن کامل12w5118 Optimal Transportation and Differential Geometry
Optimal mass transportation can be traced back to Gaspard Monge’s famous paper of 1781: ‘Mémoire sur la théorie des déblais et des remblais’. The problem there is to minimize the cost of transporting a given distribution of mass from one location to another. Since then, it has become a classical subject in probability theory, economics and optimization. At the end of the 80’s, the seminal work ...
